Buy it if you play World of Warcraft and want a free, lightweight way to update addons across multiple providers. Skip it if you don't play WoW or need a guaranteed-stable CurseForge pipeline.

Gotchas - check before you buy

high

CurseForge access was revoked once already (2022); provider relationships can break again without notice.

medium

Community project dependent on third-party APIs (CurseForge, Wago) it doesn't control.

medium

Update-sync bugs appear in GitHub issues; verify addons actually updated after big patches.

low

No paid support — help means GitHub issues and forums, not a support desk.

Pros and cons

  • Named among best WoW addon managers by PC Gamer

Cons

  • Lost CurseForge API access in 2022 after Overwolf dispute

Alternatives

Compare WowUp with each alternative.

  • CurseForge app

Official Overwolf client; biggest addon library, but ads and bundling.

  • Wago.io

WowUp's main addon partner; browse addons on the web.

    WowUp vs Wago.io

  • Manual installs via WowInterface

Zero manager breakage risk; just slower, manual updates.

  • Ajour

Guess: minimal open-source manager; lighter but fewer features.
