|---|---|---|
| Verdict | Depends | Depends |
| Best for | Video encoding hobbyists | Large, long-running discussion communities |
| Who it's not for | Anyone wanting quick, beginner-friendly answers | Casual groups wanting free or cheap |
| Privacy | Runs vBulletin, which has had repeated pre-auth RCE CVEs (2019, 2020, 2023, 2026); the forum publishes no security page. | Multiple CVEs 2024-2026 (RCE, SSRF, auth bypass); self-hosters must patch promptly. |
| Support quality | Active volunteers, no SLA | Only anecdotal community-forum evidence |
| Public sentiment | Users treat it as the go-to expert community for video encoding; gripes in evidence concern bot traffic on dated software, not content quality.⁶ | Opinions split: many operators run it happily for years, while a vocal group calls the license overpriced and the modernization pace slow. |
| Biggest gotcha | vBulletin has pre-auth RCE CVEs from 2019-2026; the forum itself flagged a dangerous one in 2019⁶ | First-year price isn't total price . renewals, hosting, add-ons stack up |
