| Verdict | Worth it | Depends |
| Best for | Anyone with a Google account | IT-comfortable SMBs self-hosting files and backups |
| Who it's not for | Privacy-strict orgs avoiding Google account lock-in | Teams wanting zero-maintenance managed cloud storage |
| Privacy | No known public vulnerabilities found in the sources reviewed; the flagged risk is user oversharing, not Google's platform.⁶ | Active CVE program and published advisories, but internet-exposed Synology NAS units have been recurring ransomware targets. |
| Support quality | No support quality data in sources | Community-first; 24/7 premium support costs extra |
| Public sentiment | Sign-in is routine for most, but users repeatedly report re-auth prompts, Android request 'spam', and cross-device sync failures.13 | Enthusiastic owner community and strong ratings, but growing grumbling about upgrade costs, branded drives, and software restrictions. |
| Biggest gotcha | Report: 40% of Drive files contain sensitive information; oversharing drives breach risk⁶ | Exposed NAS units get brute-forced and ransomware-encrypted; patch DSM CVEs fast, never expose carelessly |
