VERDICT

Should I use GeoGebra?

We value your privacy - geogebra.org

Worth it. GeoGebra is free, feature-rich math software ideal for teachers and students who need graphing, geometry, CAS, and 3D in one tool. Skip it if you only want quick, clean graphs — Desmos is simpler — or if you need commercial use without a license.

Best for

  • Math teachers
  • Students in geometry or calculus
  • Dynamic geometry and 3D visualization
  • Exam prep with familiar tools

Not for

  • Anyone needing only quick graphing — Desmos is simpler
  • Commercial users without a GeoGebra license
  • Teams wanting polished, minimal UX over raw depth
  • Non-math use cases; its power is wasted there

Gotchas - check before you buy

medium

License is free only for educational/non-commercial use; commercial use needs paid terms

low

Guess: ownership changed hands (BYJU'S era); long-term roadmap direction is uncertain

low

Old desktop/CAS builds had denial-of-service CVEs — keep apps updated

low

Desmos dominates quick-graphing habits; expect switching friction either direction

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Free math tools across web, iOS, Android, and desktop
  • Deep feature set: geometry, CAS, 3D, and statistics
  • Widely adopted in published math-education research and classrooms
  • Seen as more capable than Desmos for geometry and CAS work

Cons

  • Users report it feels 'wonky' in advanced courses
  • Many prefer Desmos for basic graphing simplicity
  • Thin independent review base: only 76 Trustpilot reviewers
