Should I use OnlineU?

Reviews and rankings of top online schools - onlineu.com

Worth it. Prospective online students should use it as a free starting point for rankings, student reviews, and tuition data. Don't rely on it alone: the site is funded by school advertising, so cross-check before enrolling.

Gotchas - check before you buy

high

Site earns via school advertising; featured schools may get placement advantages. Treat rankings as one input.

medium

Tuition figures are manually researched and can lag; confirm current pricing directly with schools.

medium

Competitor GetEducated positions OnlineU as merely a research starting point — plan to cross-check.

low

Third-party scanner rates the domain 78/100 — unremarkable; exercise normal browsing caution.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Free rankings, student reviews, and tuition data for online programs
  • Manually researched tuition rates to expose hidden costs
  • 2025 rankings built on verified student reviews
  • Publishes an advertising-disclosure page explaining its revenue
  • Cited by universities nationwide, showing real reach

Cons

  • Revenue comes from school advertising — potential ranking bias
  • Independent reviewers frame it as a starting point only
  • Domain trust score is moderate, not stellar: 78/100
  • Most praise comes from universities' own press releases, not neutral users
