| Compare | ||
|---|---|---|
| Verdict | Worth it | Depends |
| Best for | Comparing flight and hotel prices | Obscure regional airlines not on big OTAs |
| Who it's not for | Travelers who book direct and never compare prices | Standard routes bookable direct with the airline |
| Privacy | Two account takeover disclosures (Fluid Attacks and HackerOne report 1667998); no open issues confirmed in reviewed sources.⁷ | SSL certificate present; no public breach reports found in sources reviewed. |
| Support quality | Booking complaints fill consumer complaint sites | Refund complaints and fraud threads recur |
| Public sentiment | Travelers on Trustpilot and Reddit mostly trust KAYAK for price comparison but question booking and support.¹ | Feedback is split: many complete bookings without issue, but refund failures, pricing markups, and fraud allegations recur across review sites. |
| Biggest gotcha | Booking through KAYAK hands support to third-party sellers; travelers report disputes go nowhere⁴ | Refunds for airline-cancelled flights reportedly hard to recover; keep records and escalate early |
