Searchenginejournal versus Semrush
Compare	Searchenginejournal	Semrush
Verdict	Depends	Depends
Best for	SEO specialists tracking daily algorithm news	SEO agencies and consultants
Who it's not for	Anyone shopping for SEO software . this is a blog, not a tool	Hobby sites and side projects
Privacy	No known public vulnerabilities found in the sources reviewed.	One CSRF CVE in its WordPress Content Toolkit plugin; no platform breach reported, but scammers heavily impersonate Semrush.¹⁵
Public sentiment	Opinion is split: a long-respected industry staple, but several SEO practitioners on Reddit criticize article depth.^⁴	Reviewers consistently praise its data depth but split hard on whether the price and billing practices justify it.
Biggest gotcha	$97/mo membership is an impulse-buy trap; free news usually suffices for most readers.^²	7-day money-back guarantee reportedly honored inconsistently; one user charged $211¹¹
